Eniko Mihalik

In the March 2010 issue of Harper’s Bazaar US, 21-year-old Hungarian cover girl Eniko Mihalik of Elite Models, who recently appeared in an editorial for Vogue China by Alasdair McLellan, is featured in an editorial entitled “Global Warming” where she portrays a military-like scientist attempting to prevent global warming. Shot by photographer Peter Lindbergh, Eniko is set in a desert-like area equipped with all the tools she would need from solar panels and bio diesel to oxygen tanks and test tubes. Eniko would be the most chic scientist in an Aquascutum trench with Sportmaxx booties, a Jil Sander dress and belt, Blumarine jacket, shorts, and sandals, Marc Jacobs belted jacket, sweater, and bloomers, and Jean Paul Gaultier top and skirt. My favorite look is the Jean Paul Gaultier cutout top and army green skirt combining chic and military without looking like costume attire.

Following a military trend, Marie Claire US March 2010 features an editorial entitled “Military Tactics” starring 24-year-old American model Lily Aldridge of IMG in the desert shot by photographer Matt Jones. With some action poses, stylist Isabel Dupre outfits Lily in Ralph Lauren Black Label jacket, shirt, and tank with Ralph Lauren Blue Label jeans and Alexander Wang shoes, Gucci jacket and pants with a Stella McCartney tank, a Balmain dress and Seneca Rising tank with Alexander Wang shoes, a white Fendi dress, Alexander Wang vest, white tank, green tank, and shoes with a Camilla and Marc skirt, a MaxMara coat and Stella McCartney cardigan with a Dsquared2 skirt, and Marc Jacobs ruffle jacket and green shirt with a Kain white shirt and Dr. Martens for Jean Paul Gaultier boots. My favorite item in this editorial is definitely the thigh-high Dr. Martens for Jean Paul Gaultier boots mixing in the tough, military style with some feminine chic.

35-year-old fashionista Victoria Beckham is featured on the cover of Glamour US for the March 2010 issue showing a slightly more casual housewife side to Victoria. She is showcased in a Wildfox tee and her own brand of jeans, a black Marc Jacobs bra and white cardigan with Moschino Cheap and Chic shorts and lilac Christian Louboutin heels, a floral Dolce & Gabbana bodysuit with peach Christian Louboutin heels, a Sonia Rykiel top with her brand of denim shorts and green Christian Louboutin heels, a pink Burberry Prorsum trench, a cream dress by her own brand, and a lavendar Marchesa dress along with the cutest golden retriever puppy. I really like how Glamour showed Victoria doing the everyday housewife tasks from washing the floors and giving the puppy a bath to throwing a birthday party for the kids, cooking in the kitchen, and running errands.

In the magazine, she talked about what she thinks is the sexiest part about a woman. She says, “I think the sexiest thing about a woman is confidence, but confidence in a humble way, not in an arrogant way. Sense of humor is definitely important. And sunglasses always hide a multitude of sins. Sunglasses and a great pair of heels can turn most outfits around.”

24-year-old Czech supermodel Hana Soukupova of IMG, who recently appeared in Vogue Germany by Paola Kudacki, is featured in an editorial entitled “Wall Flowers” shot by photographer Regan Cameron. Shot on the streets with graffiti covered walls, Hana is showcased in Marc Jacobs nylon silk jack and leather belt with silk organza shorts, Gucci canvas jacket and cotton top with black pants, Chloé viscoe-linen-and-cotton dress and buffalo-leather belt with leather-and-suede Phi boots, Balenciaga leather-and-polyester-jersey-organza top with leather pants, a Burberry Prorsum gabardine trench, an Alexander Wang lambskin jacket with detachable cotton linen elastane skirt, and Louis Vuitton cotton shirt and skirt with Bottega Veneta Raffia sandals. Although I really enjoy the ensembles, backdrops, and hair in this editorial, I feel that the eye makeup on Hana was too dark overall. In my opinion, the makeup artist should have either given Hana a fresh, natural look or smokier eyes with less black eyeliner.

Last Friday, designer Marc Jacobs received one of the most important awards in French culture being named a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, or Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, at a ceremony held in Paris. The award was presented to Marc by Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterrand for all he’s given to the fashion industry calling him “an iconic designer, a gifted person, but also a hard worker.” Marc Jacbos has been the creative director of French luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton since 1997 who has quadrupled it’s worth since. Along with Marc, designer Nathalie Rykiel, daughter of Sonia Rykiel, also was awarded as a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.

The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres was established on May 2, 1957 by the Minister of Culture as an Order of France, which was later confirmed as an Ordre national du Mérite by previous president Charles de Gaulle in 1963 aiming to recognize significant contributions to the arts, literature, or related fields. Individuals who are considered for this prestigious award do not necessarily need to be French, but they must be citizens of France, be at least 30 years of age, adhere to French civil law, and must have “significantly contributed to the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance.”

There are three grades of the award, which are Commandeur, Officier, and Chevalier, being the highest grade given. Marc Jacobs and Nathalie Rykiel both received the Chevalier honor along with previously awarded Kylie Minogue, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Redford, Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Dylan, Meryl Streep, Jude Law, George Clooney, and others.

In the most recent issue, the sixth issue, of online magazine Vanity Teen, 23-year-old male model Cole Mohr, who recently worked with Marc by Marc Jacobs and Rick Owens, poses for a colorful editorial shot by photographer Per Zennström and styled by Enzo Laera. Cole is quirky and full of energy capturing all the attention despite the bright, neon-colored backdrops showcasing a very 90’s-inspired workout gear with Nike in almost every shot.
