grace-jones

Grace Jones has always been known for her unique style and sometimes outrageous look. This time, I’m not really sure what she was thinking.

In the past, Grace Jones was known as a trendsetter and popularized the androgynous look of the 1980′s. She also has credit for giving rise to the “flat top” trend in the same decade.

Grace was photographed exiting her car wearing an outfit that can best be described as grandma Helen meets beekeeper in 1985. Sorry Grace, your new look… not so edgy.

This is another celebrity “What Where They Thinking” fashion flop. Ashley Olson recently appeared at a Hollywood event looking like she just walked a mile through hurricane winds and her hair spray just couldn’t hold it all together.

Ashley’s unruly updo paired with gaudy “bride of Frankenstein” makeup just makes the Valentino lace dress she was wearing appear to be more “kitchen curtain” than high fashion.

Unfortunately, that dress would probably look stunning… on someone else.

amber-valletta

Supermodel turned actress turned designer 35-year-old Amber Valletta of DNA is featured in an editorial entitled “V For Valletta” in the February 2010 issue of Marie Claire US shot by photographer Simon Burstall. Edited by Elizabeth Stewart, Amber is shown in a black Yves Saint Laurent waistcoat, a short-sleeve top by Rodarte, and a black Iceberg mini dress. Looking absolutely flawless and quite fierce, once a supermodel, always a supermodel.

This past Saturday, the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2010 was held in Los Angeles just one day after the star-studded “Hope For Haiti Now” telethon. Actress Christina Hendricks from Mad Men teamed up with Degree Women Ultra Clear wearing their Red Satin Carolina Herrera dress to the event. Not only did Christina wear the Carolina Herrera gown for fashion, she wore it to support the non-profit organization Clothes Off Your Back.

Christina said, “I’m not one to shy away from making a fashion statement on the red carpet. This year, fans can help me dare to make a statement in red with Degree Women Ultra Clear, while also supporting a charitable cause, Clothes Off Our Back.”

The Carolina Herrera dress will be auctioned off with all the proceeds going towards supporting women’s causes. To bid on this gorgeous red-carpet gown, visit ClothesOffYourBack.com.

Joining those helping underprivileged individuals, actress turned fashion designer and contributing editor for InStyle Rachel Bilson has created a diamond bracelet to benefit the Diamond Empowerment Fund, a non-profit organization supporting education in Africa. Last month, while visiting Botswana and South Africa, Rachel leaned about improvements made in the diamond mining industry.

In result, she designed a bracelet made up of four brown leather cords with a gold charm framing a small round diamond running for $100 with $20 from the sale going towards the Diamond Empowerment Fund. The money raised will be going towards building student housing at the CIDA City Campus, the country’s first virtually free university in Johannesburg.

Although Rachel has never worked on jewelry until this piece, she has some experience with design with her own clothing line Edie Rose. With this experience, Rachel has a lot more to learn to become a professional designer. Rachel said, “I can’t draw at all, so I won’t be doing any sketches, but I am learning to sew. I think it’s important to know more about the whole process of making clothes.”

The bracelet Rachel has designed is available now exclusively through InStyle.com.

Diesel, the international jeans brand, is launching their “Be Stupid” campaign for their spring/summer 2010 collections encouraging consumers to take a risk and move beyond the smart, sensible track for life to follow your heart more. According to Diesel, stupid inspires, makes for great stories, leads to brilliance, and have balls. The campaign was developed at Anomaly in London including online press and outdoor advertisements of ‘stupid’ acts, a digital recruitment campaign for the Diesel music video/2010 catalogue, and viral activity to online the company’s ‘stupid’ philosophy.

For the first time in Victoria’s Secret history, they utilized 16-year-old Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen to represent them instead of having an Angel represent them at an in-store launch. Taylor hosted and celebrated the debut of the fragrance Sexy Little Things Love Rocks at the SoHo Victoria’s Secret store in New York City earlier this week and stuck around to sign some autographs for her awaiting fans. The fragrance is a powerful and intoxicating combination scent of plum, violet, vanilla, peony, jasmine, and peach nectar in a rock n’ roll-style red lacquer bottle adorned with tattoo-inspired graphics with a removable black leatherette rosette.

Taylor says, “I love it. It’s kind of a more masculine scent from the other Love collections, which is really cool. And I love the packaging. It looks really pretty on the dresser.”

The fragrance comes in eau de parfum, scented lotion, scented bath and shower cream, scented mist, and lip gloss ring available now at all Victoria’s Secret stores as well as at VictoriasSecret.com.
