Joining those helping underprivileged individuals, actress turned fashion designer and contributing editor for InStyle Rachel Bilson has created a diamond bracelet to benefit the Diamond Empowerment Fund, a non-profit organization supporting education in Africa. Last month, while visiting Botswana and South Africa, Rachel leaned about improvements made in the diamond mining industry.
In result, she designed a bracelet made up of four brown leather cords with a gold charm framing a small round diamond running for $100 with $20 from the sale going towards the Diamond Empowerment Fund. The money raised will be going towards building student housing at the CIDA City Campus, the country’s first virtually free university in Johannesburg.
Although Rachel has never worked on jewelry until this piece, she has some experience with design with her own clothing line Edie Rose. With this experience, Rachel has a lot more to learn to become a professional designer. Rachel said, “I can’t draw at all, so I won’t be doing any sketches, but I am learning to sew. I think it’s important to know more about the whole process of making clothes.”
The bracelet Rachel has designed is available now exclusively through InStyle.com.
